Hi, I’m Melyssa Griffin, the founder of The Story House. In 2023, I opened a little bookshop in Lisbon called Fable. At first, it was simply a place to sell books I loved, sip my morning flat white, and host the occasional writing workshop.
But something unexpected happened: Fable became more than a bookshop. It became a place for belonging.
Every week, writers, poets, and creatives from all over Europe (and beyond) showed up for our Writers’ Hour – a simple hour of silent writing followed by the chance to share their work with the group. Some weeks, the room was so full that people perched on the stairs or sat cross-legged on the floor, pen in one hand, notebook in the other.
Not exactly ergonomic, but when you’re surrounded by your people, you make it work.
The Story House began, quite literally, with a story – mine.
Over time, I realized something:
These writers weren’t just looking for a place to write. They were looking for a place to belong.
That’s when the idea for The Story House was born.
Today, TSH is an online home for writers everywhere. We offer retreats, courses, and a membership designed to help you sharpen your craft, stay accountable, and connect with a global community of writers.
But here’s what makes us different:
